Morning Matcha!

Do you have a morning routine? It's honestly one of the highlights of my day and when it goes awry, my day seems entirely off. Here's how it goes:

5:00-5:30am my alarm goes off. Let's be clear, this is weekdays only, weekends are for sleeping in! Or as much as one can with two kids and a dog. I get up, leaving the lights out for other sleeping human in the same room, put my workout clothes on that I've left out on my dresser (not having to pick out clothes is one less deterrent from hitting the snooze button!) and I go downstairs and drink my pre-workout supplement. While I wait for that to kick into gear I scroll through some emails, put away any dishes and pans left out from the night before and get lunch boxes out for the kids.

5:30-6:30am(ish) I stream a workout. There will be no car-starting or jacket wearing in order to get a workout in here! The key here is as little effort as necessary to make things happen. I used to look at "those people" who worked out in the mornings like they were nuts, but really, they were just making a conscious effort to put themselves first before the craziness of the day took hold. Do I jump out of bed excited to workout? No I do NOT! But it sets the tone for my day and I'm a happier mom and wife when the rest of my family gets up and starts the morning showdown to get up and get out.

6:30-7am I make lunches for the kids, get breakfast ready and either make a bulletproof coffee or a matcha latte - it really depends on what I'm in the mood for.

7:00am is the earliest the kids start rolling out of bed but the important thing here is that I've gotten some time in for me, made lunches, cleaned up the kitchen and had a few sips of coffee or matcha in peace and quiet. That's all I need before getting shot out of the cannon!

I often get asked how I make my matcha so I'll post the recipe below. I'm sharing because it honestly took me at least a dozen times trying different matchas and combos to find one that didn't taste like dirty water to me - sorry to all you tea people out there! This is by far and away the BEST matcha I have tried. Check out my SHOP tab for a quick link to it buy it!

Matcha Latte (Serves 1)

Ingredients:

8-10oz warm water (Not hot! Hot water can make the matcha bitter - I find the temp of the water out of the Keurig is perfect)

1scoop Vital Proteins Collagen Matcha

1 tablespoon coconut butter (or manna - not the same as coconut oil)

A couple shakes of cinnamon

A splash of non-dairy milk of choice (unsweetened vanilla almond milk is usually my go-to)

Optional: 1/2 teaspoon of honey for sweetness

Instructions:

Place all ingredients in your blender and blend for about a minute. The collagen matcha makes it foamy and the coconut butter makes it creamier...it's just so good!!

Let me know if you make it and what you think!
