Growing up I had a mom who put a delicious dinner on the table every night and we ate as a family. With kids of my own and everyone having different schedules, I now realize what a feat that was! I was the kid who had celery sticks with peanut butter in their lunchbox - no one would trade their Hostess for THAT! We did get treats though, there was just always a time and a place for it. I enjoyed what we ate but I never appreciated the food habits my mother instilled in me until I became a mother myself. Sports were just a part of life, a way to hang out with our friends or do something together as a family from hiking to skiing. In my lifetime I've been professionally certified as a ski instructor, have completed my 200-hour yoga teacher certification, am a certified group fitness instructor, have taught stroller fitness classes and am an avid runner with numerous half-marathons and one marathon under my belt.
SIMPLY SARAH
A little bit about me...
Welcome to Simply Sarah! Here you will find my affection for creating a clean(er) lifestyle for myself and my family. I do my best to eliminate processed sugar, preservatives and ingredients you simply can't pronounce from my family's diet. My feeling is that if I can control what they eat at home, then what they all eat outside the house is a.o.k. 80/20 is my motto! So yes, I DO let my kids have cake at birthday parties and desserts are a nightly occurrence (if they eat their dinner!). I always make room for that margarita and sweet treat but the focus is on what we are doing the majority of the time, which is making sure we are eating "foods that make us grow", as my daughter says.
“I’ve always felt that I was at my happiest when I could do something active.”
No matter which way life took me, it always came back to being active. As a freshly minted college grad I moved to NYC only to dream of the moment I could hightail it from my unfulfilling desk job for the things I truly loved. You name it, I did it: gym rat cardio-fiend, pilates-obsessed into barre babe which launched me into yoga. From tennis on roof-tops, to pole dancing fitness classes (yes, that’s a thing) to running the NYC marathon, I’ve always felt that I was at my happiest when I could do something active - hmm...maybe I was onto something there? This career path in health and fitness was written in the stars but I just didn’t quite see it yet.
Here’s the thing though...NYC...for me, in my 20’s, it was the epitome of working hard and playing hard. I’d get up early, run six miles, head to work for 10 hours, go to a yoga class (or whatever the current obsession of the moment was), hit the town for cocktails, then head out for a late dinner with friends or order in. Then I’d get up and do it all over again. I didn’t realize it then but I was desperately trying to out exercise a bad diet and bad habits! Fast-forward to my 30’s and I had that “A-HA!” moment where it all came together. Food and fitness don’t have to be complicated, I didn’t need hours a day dedicated to being fit and learning how to eat well and alas! I could still eat the foods I wanted and maybe even be in BETTER shape than I was in my 20’s! All of this leads me to this place right here.
“Food and fitness go hand-in-hand and my goal is to help you find that balance.”
Simply Sarah is about making simple changes in our habits to live happier, healthier lives. Food and fitness go hand-in-hand and my goal is to help you find that balance. I’ve done the let’s-run-30-miles-a-week thing, I’ve done the juice cleanse thing but life is short and having to think about that cupcake you ate or the sweat session you didn’t get is not the way you want to live it. Where’s the Joy Factor?! Each month I lead online health and fitness groups that teach you the basics of healthy eating, how to meal plan for yourself and your family (yes, your kids can get on board too!) and how to toss those old habits of villainizing foods. I’ve got easy and fast recipes to get you started and I’ll show you how to incorporate fitness into your daily routine whether you are a full-time working mama or mom-in-chief to the daily madness at home. I strongly believe you are what you continually do and never so much as with your food and fitness. Jump in a group and see how food and fitness is made simple!
“Sarah motivates me day in and day out to be a stronger version of myself. I can't thank her enough for inspiring this change in my life.”
